The fall of 2007 began my Freshman year of college at Cleveland State University. My eyes were bright and full of hope, my hair was long and...somewhat bushy, and every day I hazily made my way onto the 6:50 a.m. bus for my 8:30 a.m. class. Looking back now, I really have no idea how I did it. My entire freshman year, for the most part, is truthfully a rather large blur with random flashes of sleep depravity. I woke at 5:30 every morning, walked a decent amount to Lake road (no matter the weather conditions) and caught the bus. This was when I first began taking public transportation.
My bus driver was an older man, probably around 50, and always seemed to have something to say to me. He would make small talk, ask me where I was headed (as every one else on my bus were older business men and women) and when I first met him...how old I was. I answered, "I'm eighteen." as I held on for dear life as he whipped around corners. His response, "Eighteen! Shoo...I thought you were twelve!" As I realized increasingly so that he may have been some what concerned for me...seeing as how he thought I was a lost twelve year old heading into the city, I became more concerned as he persisted to hit on me. He would say things like, "I like your style girl." or "You're a pretty girl!" and a year later when seeing me for the first time that year..."You lookin REAALLL mature". Yea. not QUITE sure what that one meant, but I definitely chose to ignore it. Other times, he would actually tell me to call him! He would say he wanted to chat and see how my classes were going..and I was always very confused by it. Why would this man remotely care? Yea, I was a bit naive and lacking street smarts at the time. As a matter of fact, one day after he pestered me to call him, I was SO annoyed by his persistence that I actually DID! He literally asked me how I was enjoying my classes, told me about his daughter and what she is up to, and then we hung up. Ohhhh young Hannah.
yesssss.
ReplyDeleteBahaha, I thought this guy gave you his number or something too and asked for yours so he supposedly could call you if he was running late or something? I don't know, maybe that was another creeper. ...
